Glodeni is a district (Moldovan: raion) in the north of Moldova, with the administrative center at Glodeni. As of 1 January 2011 (2011 -01-01), its population was 61,900. The administrative-territorial division - 35 localities grouped in 18 comune and 1 town.

One of most beautiful localities is Bisericani, a small village situated on the river of Prut, in Pădurea Domnească natural reservation.

History

Place the oldest attestation of the district is the Cobani remembered for the first time June 3, 1374. Other old localities but with a late certification in May are: Balatina, Camenca, Cuhnesti, Iabloana mentioned historical period from 1429-1442. In XV-XVII continue to develop trade and economic region, and there has been a significant increase of population. In 1616 is documented Glodeni district center. Since the XVII-XVIII centuries, the region fueled by the constant wars waged hinder Polish–Lithuanian Commonwealth, Ottoman Empire, Russian Empire. In 1812 the region has been occupied by Russian Empire, and besides the local Population of Moldovans, many have settled here Ukrainian and Russian, which currently constitutes 22% of the population district. After the collapse of Russian Empire in 1917, Basarabia decide union with the motherland Romania. In 1940 Bessarabia it is again occupied by the USSR after the Molotov-Ribbentrop pact. In 1944-1991 Glodeni district in the center became the composition of the MSSR. In 1991 as a result of the proclamation of independence of Moldova, part of the Balti County (1991-2003), and in 2003 became administrative unit of Moldova.

Geography

Glodeni district is located in northwestern of the Republic of Moldova, is nearby with Riscani District in the north, Balti Municipality in the east, Falesti District in south and state border with Romania in the west. District is a hilly plain relief, fragmented by valleys, higher in the east and west with a slight incline, where it merges with the Prut. In the western district, in the localities Balatina, Cobani, Butesti, Camenca spans a number of Toltre, Moldovan treasures of nature. Underground Riches: gravel and sand (the Prut), building stone (Balatina, Butesti, Camenca, Cobani), limestone (Cuhnesti, Viişoara), clay (Glodeni, Danu, Iabloana). Soils:most chernozems, loamy, leachate other. Maximum altitude in district is 250 m,in western of district.

Climate

Temperate continental climate. The annual average temperature 8.5 degrees. January average temperature -4.5 degrees, 20.5 degrees in July. 480–560 mm annual rainfall. In rainy years up to 750 mm \ year, while in dry years 300–350 mm \ year.

Fauna

Fauna typical of Central Europe with this: fox, weasel, marten, deer, woodpecker, turtle dove, pheasant, and others (in forests). Boar, ondatra, otter, duck, wild cat, egret (the Prut). gopher, field mouse, rabbits, partridges (the steppe).

Flora

Forests occupy 8.5% of the district and are complemented by oak, acacia, poplar, ash, maple, elm, hazel. Of undergrowth: shock, blackthorn, blackberry. Steppe and forest steppe vegetation include: denial, grass, knotweed, clover, wormwood and others.

Padurea Domneasca

Scientific Reserve Padurea Domneasca is a national treasure, to be enriched, recovered and expanded throughout the Middle Prut area from Criva to Pruteni. Forest in Prut valley, taken under state protection since 1993, is one of the most valuable meadows and old floodplain forests in Europe. Area - 6039 ha, of which 3054 ha are forests. Reserve stretches over a length of 40 km. The entry Prut in Republic of Moldova (Criva) until Pruteni village downstream, where the finish area, a relatively small field, are true pearls of Moldovan nature, Toltre. Also European Bison were brought from Poland in 2006, and now inhabits the reserve.

Rivers

The largest river Prut, lies on the border state with Romania, smaller - Camenca, Căldăruşa, Glodeni (Prut basin) and Copăceanca (Raut basin). District is rich in lakes and ponds (1900 ha) west through tasty fish, clean water. In summer they become favorite places for tourists and locals.

Religion

Economy

The district is in total 6500 registered companies. The share of agricultural land is 56,363 ha (74.7%) of total land area. Arable land occupies 42 300 ha (56.1%) of the total agricultural land, of which orchards plantations - 2192 ha (2.9%), vineyards deals - 765 ha (1.0%), pastures - 10,780 ha (14.3%), others - 388 ha. Main branch of economy is agriculture. She specializes in cultural crops - sunflower, sugar beet, tobacco, cereal crops. Livestock and milk production is more intensive practice only in rural farms in Danu and Sturzovca.

Education

The district currently operates 32 kindergartens, 2 primary schools, 10 secondary schools, 8 schools of general education, 8 theoretical schools, 9158 students studying. Enable two vocational training in Glodeni and Ciuciulea.

Politics

During the years 2001-2009, Glodeni district was part of the electoral region, North Red (PCRM region where usually over 50% of votes). But after the 2009 July elections the communists lose to the AEI.

During the last three elections AEI had an increase of 107.7%

Culture

The district operates: district center of creation for children, schools of art, music and fine arts, 27 culture houses, 35 public libraries, 5 museums, 97 artistic works, 17 bands, holding the title of the band - model.

Health

In Glodeni works: hospital general fund of 200 beds, a center of family doctors in the composition of which there are 13 family physician offices, 10 health centers, four health offices, 26 pharmacies.
